The project, within which the performance of Teatr ZAR will be presented, arose from the will of Andrey Tarkovsky, who, before his death, wished to create a centre dedicated to the arts and spirituality. During the festiwal the Abbey of Pontigny, Epi d’Or Arts, the International Andrey Tarkovsky Institute and Andrey Andreievitch Tarkovsky (Andrey Tarkovsky’s son) will gather and the programme of artistic performances inspired by the world’s sacred arts will be presented. Performances in Avignon are a part of the independent festival programme and in Pontigny, they will be marking 900 years of the Abbey of Pontigny, the second daughter of Cîteaux and the biggest Cistercian church in Europe, a well-known arts and music centre in France.
