Reading from the book The Book of Whispers by Varujan Vosganian (Książkowe Klimaty, Wrocław, 2015) as part of Worldwide Reading Commemorating the Centenary of the Armenian Genocide.
Excerpts from the book will be read by Jacek Zawadzki. The reading will be followed by a discussion about the book, hosted by Kama Margielska, editor-in-chief of the Książkowe Klimaty publishing house.
The Book of Whispers begins in the Armenian quarter of Focşani in the 1950s amid the steam of freshly roasted coffee and the aromas of grandma Armenuhi’s pantry and amid the old books and photographs of grandpa Garabet. But instead of telling us of Ara the Fair and Tigran the Great, Varujan Vosganian’s “old Armenians from childhood” recount stories of interminable convoys of deported Armenians, of the death march across the Syrian desert to Deir ez-Zor, and other stories from the history of Armenians, in which the year 1915 holds a special place.
